1. Missions Expo Canceled
 The missions expo which was scheduled to run this Saturday at St Stephen’s Shirley has been cancelled due to the earthquake interrupting proceedings.
 
 
2. Earthquake Safe Spaces
Ian Burn works for the Council of Social Services, and has been asked by the Civil Defence Earthquake team to gather information from different organisations about how they are providing more informal support for people after the earthquake. Especially in terms of places where people can just drop in to share their stories or have a cup of tea or coffee. If your parish is doing this (which we know a number are) please let him know by either calling 940 9493 or emailing ian@pegx.org.nz.
 
 
3. Growing Through Divorce
A six week course for those separated or divorced starts at St Christophers Anglican Church, 244 Avonhead Road on Thursday 14th October 2010, 7.30-9.30pm.

4. Need a Break After the Earthquake?
If you need a haven to recover from the shakes of Christchurch for a while we have two generous offers.
 
Rev's Bob & Justine Tremewan have a guest suit in their home (2 double bedrooms, sitting area and ensuite bathroom) that they offer for use to anyone who may need temporary accommodation. 15 minutes from the CBD at 3 Gazelle Lane, Redcliffs. Phone: 376 6267. Email: tremewans@xtra.co.nz.
 
Rev Steve Wockner is the Vicar of the Buller Anglican Parish. At their Church in Granity they have a small 2 person unit they would like to offer for free to any Anglican clergy or parishioners who may need a holiday after the earthquake events. It is rented until 24th Sept but after that it is vacant. Young children could be accommodated by parents bringing air mattresses. Any enquiries, phone 03-7898348.
 
 
5. Celebrating International Day of the Elderly - 1 October
Anglican Aged Care would like to encourage all parishes and other groups to use International Day of the Elderly on 1st October to celebrate and give thanks to God for those who are elderly in our church and in our communities. This may be by way of a special service or event on 1st October, or by including older people in a special way in your services on the following Sunday (3rd October). We value the prayers you offer for our Anglican Aged Care work among older people. 6. Mega Book Sale
Saturday 2nd October, 9am-4pm, St Silas, Redwood (corner of Tuckers Road and the Main North Road)
 
St. Silas Parish in Redwood is holding a Mega Book Sale on as a church fundraiser. They will be selling books, magazines, DVD’s, CD’s, games, puzzles and stamps. There will also be entertainment for the children, Tea/Coffee/Devonshire Tea plus a BBQ.
 
 
7. Kaiapoi Parish Spring Fair
Saturday, October 2nd, 9:30am-12:30pm, St Bartholomew's Church, Cass St, Kaiapoi
 
Stalls include: White elephant, Jewellery, Cakes & Sweets, Produce, Plants, Tombola, Craft, Books, Face Painting, Bouncy Castle, Sausage Sizzle, plus lots more!

8. Diocesan Race Day
Saturday 2nd October, Riccarton Park
 
This event is on once again. Cost will be $25 per head, which will cover entry, a race book, our use of the private Phar Lap Room and a sumptuous buffet meal in the Balmerino Lounge – great value! 9. Spring Service of Hope
Sunday 3rd October, St Davids, Main North Road, Belfast at 9am; St Silas, cnr Main North Road and Tuckers Road, Redwood at 10.30am.
 
Belfast-Redwood parish are holding a Spring Service of Hope to celebrate the joy of new life in the season of Spring, and to pray for God’s gift of hope for the people of our city and province. All welcome!

11. College House 160th celebrations
8-10th October
 
College House plans to host a Reunion Weekend from the 8th till 10th of October 2010. We will celebrate 160 years of history and the admission of our 5000th fresher student. 12. Annual Plant & Garden Sale
Saturday 9 October, 9am-12pm, St Peter's Church, Upper Riccarton
 
The 9th annual St Peter’s plant and garden sale is coming up. We have a great array of plants for your flower and vegetable gardens, including hostas, Asiatic lilies, perennials, ground covers, rockery, bulbs, natives, small shrubs, vegetables, herbs, fruiting plants, etc, all lovingly potted and raised by members of the parish. Pots, tools and other garden items are also for sale. This has been an extremely popular sale over the years so come early for the best selection.
 
 
13. Silent Auction
Thursday, 14th October from 6.30pm, Oxford Working Mens Club, High Street, Oxford.
 
A silent auction is to be held as a fundraiser for the Oxford-Cust Parish. Tickets are $10 (which includes supper) available from Jeannie Campbell 03 3102237 or Jenny Carney - 03 312 3328 Liquid refreshments may be bought at the bar. Items bought at the Auction need to be paid by cheque or cash. Come and join a fun, friendly evening.
 
 
14. St Johns Church Hororata Country Spring Fair
Monday 25th October, Labour Day, 9am-2pm, St John’s Hororata
