Canons Almoner

Unique to New Zealand, The Order of Canons-Almoner comes out of a long and distinguished tradition in the church.
The Canons-Almoner play a vital role in the life of this Cathedral as it flourishes and expands, providing a rich source of experience and guidance as well as financial resources.

Individuals join by invitation to the limited number of the order and meet each year for a dinner hosted by the Dean of the Cathedral. An annual choral service is also held to formally recognise the work and financial contributions Canon-Almoners undertake. Upon installation, Canons-Almoner receive a bronze medallion in recognition of their new office, designed and crafted by local artists, as well as a listing in the commemorative plaque on the south wall in the sanctuary of the Cathedral building.

For further information on the Order please contact the Dean. Members of the Order are people of sound standing in the community with a genuine interest in this iconic building and its life in the city.
