Angel over the City

The Angel Gabriel now hovers over our fallen city, a sign of God's presence and hope for our future. Last Christmas three larger than life angels were created by artists Caroline and Carly Trevella. These were placed high in the Cathedral Nave for Christmas. Removed early January this year, they survived the devastating earthquake of Feb 22nd. As a creative way of bringing Cathedral life to the city again, we decided to hang an angel from a large crane in the red zone. Gabriel was our first choice. In the New Testament Gospel of Luke, the angel Gabriel announced to Mary the coming birth of the Christ child, God among us. Gabriel's message was one of great joy. We hope locals and visitors will feel that same of joy when they encounter Gabriel in the central city. He is attached to a Smiths crane beside the doomed Clarendon Towers building on Worcester Boulevard.
