Mobile Cathedral
This week the Cathedral took delivery of two Ford Transit 12 seater minibuses. They will support the recently launched Healthy Eating Programme, move the Cathedral Choir from 'A to B' when required and Community and Public Health officers out to needy areas of the city .The Cathedral's Healthy Eating Programme has now been running for eight weeks and is proving very popular. Two areas in the east currently receive assistance, Shirley and New Brighton. In early 2012, if the programme is given approval to continue (currently a pilot), Linwood North and Rowley will also link up, followed a little later by Aranui. This would see between 300 and 400 families assisted weekly with market fresh, affordable fruit and vegetables- a huge effort. Though 'pristine white' at the moment, the van’s will in early 2012 become recognisably 'Cathedral' giving us a unique visual presence. Special thanks to those who assisted us with funding for these vehicles - The NZ Community Trust, Anonymous donors in Australia, CDHB and John Hutchinson Ford.
