Postscript for Feb 12

On Wednesday last week I went out to see how the community lunch at St Faith’s in NewBrighton was going. This is one of the regular lunches that the Cathedral community supports by providing hot food and volunteers to help. There would have been about 35 people there, many of whom are going through a very rough time indeed, living in very difficult circumstances, a great deal of uncertainty for the future and on limited means. The parish is doing a great job, and I’m really glad that this is a way in which some of the Cathedral volunteers can lend a hand to the east. Craig Dixon was there too, dropping off 74 packs of veggies for the veggie coop. This has been a huge success since the Cathedral set it up in conjunction with St Aidan’s Bryndwr, with over 350 people signed up to buy a weekly pack of veggies and fruit for the really low price of $10. It’s another great initiative and shows how ministry units can work together in response to the needs of the wider community in the most damaged area of our city.
