Helping Others
The Cathedral volunteers may be short on a building to work in each week but they are offering their gifts in new ways to support parishes and community organisations. Cathedral guides, who can tell you the complete history of the Cathedral in the space of a 40 minute tour, are now turning their hands to preparing meals to be frozen and given to the parishes of New Brighton, Aranui and Linwood to distribute. A meal preparation morning on 23 May, generously hosted by St Barnabas Anglican Church Fendalton, was a time for getting together over a coffee and a vege peeler. The resulting 33 cottage pies were an added bonus (see photos below). Soup is also being prepared by volunteers and Regulars.
Cathedral Receptionists Hilary Allen and Allison Blackler are giving their time to work at the Centre for Christchurch Community Response based at St Ambrose in Aranui. Another group of volunteers
are making polar fleece blankets and jackets for babies which will be distributed through the eastern parishes and community organisations (Pregnancy Help Inc and The Chirstchurch City Mission).
A morning of sewing draught stoppers is planned at St Christopher’s Church, Avonhead Road. Still other volunteers are giving their time occasionally to pack newsletters for the Haemophilia Foundation.
