The flags hanging from the balcony are as follows, from left to right:
On Remembrance Day, 6 November 1949, this memorial chapel was unveiled by the Governor-General, Sir Bernard Freyberg V.C., and dedicated to the Archbishop West-Watson. The altar had been carved by Dean Carrington, third dean of this Cathedral, in memory of his son, Christopher, who was killed in France in 1916. Colours and symbols are used around the chapel to make reference to the work of our Services, including the Navy, the Chaplains, the Army, the Air Force, the Medical Services and the Merchant Navy. The symbol of the peacock above the altar was chosen by Bishop Warren to represent immortality.
