The Director of the Girl Choristers

Kimberley Wood is our Director of the Girl Choristers. 
As well as her Cathedral duties, Kim is currently studying towards her PhD in Marketing at the University of Canterbury. In 2020, she received her master’s degree in commerce (MCom), and her Bachelor of Music degree in 2018. She is on the committee for the New Zealand Choral Federation Canterbury / West Coast district organising the Big Sing Regionals and Finale being held in Christchurch this year.

She has a keen interest in Musical Theatre. In the past, Kimberley has musically directed Jesus Christ Superstar (2016), Spring Awakening (2017), Miscast: an Arts Month Cabaret (2017), and Footloose (2019) for MUSOC, and played keys for Dirty Rotten Scoundrel (NCMS, 2019), 42nd Street (NASDA, 2019), Beauty and the Beast (CentreStage Rolleston, 2019), Miss Saigon (Showbiz, 2019), NASDA Showcase (2019), Jersey Boys (The Court Theatre, 2020-21), Chicago (CentreStage Rolleston, 2021), Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat (NCMS, 2021), The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (NASDA, 2021), The Drowsy Chaperone (NASDA, 2021), and Little Shop of Horrors (2021-22, understudy MD). She also enjoyed her brief moment not in the orchestral pit as an ensemble member in Evita for Showbiz (2016) and in The Secret Garden (Enchanting Productions, 2021).

This year, Kimberley is working at NASDA (National Academy of Singing and Dramatic Arts) as a musicianship and singing tutor as well as at the University of Canterbury as a tutor in music theory. She also teaches piano, singing, and theory at different schools whilst accompanying singers and instrumentalists alike.
