The Transitional Cathedral is available for baptisms and are always made available without a request for a donation or expectation of any fee to be paid. Please contact a member of the clergy team to inquire further.

Wherever you are on your faith journey the Transitional Cathedral extends a warm welcome to you. Whether you feel sure and confident in your faith or whether you are full of questions, doubts and uncertainties you are very welcome. At this Cathedral we seek to do our best to support one another in our shared searching and questioning, knowing none of us will ever understand it all.

WEDDINGS

The Transitional Cathedral is available for weddings and we welcome your enquiry.  

New Zealand’s newest Cathedral - and the only one in the world to be made substantially of cardboard – could be the venue for your wedding. The Transitional Cathedral is the Mother Church of the Anglican Diocese of Christchurch, but it hosts all sorts of occasions. It is not a parish church so is not limited to serving people from any one geographic area.

Any couple seeking marriage may apply to be married in the Cathedral and the same conditions that apply to other Anglican churches are followed. One partner should be baptised in a Christian church and both partners are expected to undertake two sessions of preparation and planning, led by the marriage celebrant who will be one of the priests on the cathedral staff, or another Anglican priest, approved by the Dean of the Cathedral. Services are in the Anglican Tradition, taken from the New Zealand Prayer Book. The musical resources of the Cathedral (organ, soloists, choir and instrumentalists) may be available on request.

Wedding Fees

The basic fee to cover officiating clergy, organist and organ, light, heat and power, cleaning maintenance and security, Verger and custodians is $1,000.00. 

There are additional fees for soloists, instrumentalists, choristers of the choir, if available. 

Wedding Receptions

The Cathedral can also host your wedding reception, in association with the catering company Moveable Feasts.
